Use Affirmations to Empower Yourself and Other Girls

Did you know that how you talk to yourself is just as important as how you speak to others? It is! Words carry weight and when used the right way, they have the power to motivate, encourage, excite, inspire, and calm you and the people around you.

What is an Affirmation?

Affirmations are words and sentences that deliberately affect your conscious and subconscious mind. What that means is this. The right affirmations are powerful enough to affect you and the people around you while you’re awake and when you’re asleep, too! Repeating an affirmation several times a day or throughout the week helps empower you and the girls you spend the most time with.

Sample Affirmations That Lift You Up

Choose an affirmation based on how you feel or what you’re trying to accomplish. Here are some sample affirmations you can use on a regular basis:

  • I am…Insert the appropriate word or phrase. For example, “I am beautiful,” “I am strong,” “I am confident,” and “I am intelligent,” are all powerful affirmations.
  • I feel…Again, select the word or phrase that sums up the feeling or action you want to take.  So, “I feel powerful,” “I feel calm,” “I feel influential,” and “I feel rested,” are some good examples of words that complete this incredible affirmation.
  • Your favorite quote or mantra. You may have read something or heard someone you admire say something that resonates with you. Make it your choice of affirmation, focusing on the words, and repeating it often enough that it sticks with you.

You can turn any positive statement into an affirmation. The key is to memorize, repeat, and share it with others. That’s how the words have their greatest impact.

Ways to Make Affirmations Easy to Use

A simple reminder makes using affirmations easy. Take a stack of index cards and write down your favorite words and phrases. Make them into power statements such as “I am beautiful,” and “I am courageous.” Encourage your friends to do the same. This is a great after school or sleepover activity because it promotes good self-esteem and takes little time and money to complete.

Change your words and change your mindset! As a No Mean Girls reader and ambassador, you have the power to choose how you react to negativity. Use the list of affirmations above to empower yourself and other girls. You’ll be surprised how a single word or short phrase gives you courage and strength when times are tough.
